Chapter Two: Interiors I love! (including my own)
finding your own, personal interior design style & footprint
I recently turned 30 and it has pushed me to desire to find my own style in every area of life. Specifically with my clothes and my home, I’m paying attention to the things I’ve always gravitated towards and the things that genuinely have always “sparked joy” for me. Something about being 30 feels like i’m a real woman now. Hilarious that having four kids and being married 10 years didn’t do it for me but hitting my third decade did, for some reason. I feel sophisticated (ha) fun and really myself. Unapologetic for the things I love and gravitate towards. In another chapter I will talk about how this is playing out in what I wear, but for now let’s cover interior design.
I LOVE ANIMAL PRINT. I’m so sorry to all the vegans snd PETA people; I can’t help it. Although let’s be honest none of the animal print I own is real, so that makes it better, right?
Wearing animal prints and having them in my home makes me feel sooooo chic. When I was a little girl my mom let me design my room a few times and probably my best iteration was my pottery barn teen lime green silk bedding with pom poms, lavender silk accent pillows, lavender cheetah sheets, and a black and white zebra lumbar pillow (I wish I still had that thing.)
Now fast forward 20 years and I am adding zebra print, leopard print, tiger patterns, fur and color all back in my home. As did most of us millennials, I fell victim to the bare bones empty white house vibe for too many years. Now, my house is less of a reflection of random instagram photos, and more of a reflection of who my family is, things we really love, inspiration from our favorite Parisian hotel, things that remind us of our favorite cities, and my own art. I feel so passionate about people having bold color in their home and on their walls again (I’d love to help you solve that problem, but we will get to that at another time.)
Over the summer we moved from our brand new house in the suburbs, to a house in our favorite area of town… to the “city,” if you can qualify it as that in Tulsa. Our previous home was big and white and everything was new, it was impossible to make it look bad. Our home now is much more cozy, darker tones and a little older finishes so it took more intentionality to genuinely make it feel like home and like us. It’s been really fun to make it feel cozy and chic and add our personal mark to it. One day I’ll have to post some before and afters, but this house has been a fun project and a way to realize I can really make any home feel like our own with some intentionality to the design.
I worked with a friend who is an interior designer at our last house and she told me our style would be defined as “Eclectic Parisian” (not to be confused with a classic French style) and having words to define what I gravitate towards has been extremely helpful and fun.
Here’s some of my favorite interior inspiration as of late!

and here’s what my home is currently looking like (I literally just snapped these as i’m sitting here writing this post or already had some of them on my phone, it might look cuter styled and cleaned, but you get the point.)

How would you describe your personal interior design style? The first images I shared above are all from Pinterest, and they’re my inspo board to work towards as time goes on. I want my grandkids to come to my house some day and walk into an all cheetah powder bath with a crazy multicolored crystal lamp. These are the goals I’m working towards in life <3
